Willie Obiano Early Life
Willie Obiano’s earliest education was at the Holy Trinity Primary School Onitsha where had his primary education. For his secondary education, he attended Christ the King College, Onitsha, where he obtained his West African School Certificate. After this, he proceeded to the University of Lagos and obtained a B.Sc. Second Class Upper in Accounting in the year 1979 and an MBA in Marketing in the year 1993.
Willie Obiano was very outstanding while in school. In the year 1974 at C.K.C. Onitsha, he won the John F. Kennedy Award for Essay. During his National Youth Service, he was awarded a National Merit Certificate for outstanding service in Benue State and the Best Youth Corper Award.

Obiano worked at First Bank of Nigeria Plc as a Supervisor in 1981. He also worked with Texaco as the refineries and bunkering auditor and rapidly rose to the position of Chief International Auditor of Texaco, before joining Fidelity Bank Plc in the1991.
At Fidelity Bank, he was a Deputy Manager and Head of Audit. Shortly after he joined the bank, he was elevated to the position of a manager. In 2003, he became an Executive Director, he was a General Manager before assuming the position.
Apart from academic Award, Willie Obiano has also bagged several professional awards such as Distiguished Banker of the Year 2012 Award. Willie Obiano is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN); Patron, Institute Of Chartered Accountants of Lagos (Mainland); President, AMP8 (Advance Management Programme) of Lagos Business School for Ten years period; Member, 2006 Building New Ventures; Member, Harvard University, USA CLASS, Member, Harvard Business School, Boston USA and Stanford University.
In November 2013, Willie Obiano became the governor of Anambra State, having successfully contested for the position under the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).
He was successfully re-elected in November 2017 on the platform of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

Chief Willie Obiano is married to her Excellency Ebelechukwu Obiano, the marriage is blessed with children.
One of the greatest qualities of Chief Willie Obiano is his philanthropic spirit and his willingness to help people in need. He is known to have secretly operated a Foundation that has offered scholarships to many people from Anambra North Senatorial district.

Consequently, he has won many honours from the church including a recognition from the Catholic Diocese of Onitsha (2008), another from the Catholic Association for Communication in Nigeria (2011) and yet another from St Gerald Catholic Church Gbagada as the Grand Pillar of the Parish in 2010.
Obiano was also honoured as the patron of St. Gerald’s Catholic Church, Gbagada Parish (2008) and Catholic Artists and Entertainers Association of Nigeria. He is a winner of the Role Model of the Year 2009 organized by the Maribet Consult and the Catholic Women Association of Nigeria as well as winner of the Career Excellence Award from the Awka Development Union in 2008. n

Controversy
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has moved Willie Obiano, the former governor of Anambra State to its headquarters in Abuja.
Obiano handed over to Chukwuma Soludo, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria at the Government House, Awka, on Thursday after completing his two-term tenure of eight years in office as governor.
He was picked up by the operatives of the EFCC on his way to Texas, United States by 8:30 pm at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.
It was gathered authoritatively on Friday that the leadership of the commission gave a directive for the immediate movement of the former Governor from Lagos to Abuja.
The source said that Obiano Read was moved out of Lagos with the first flight and is already at the Commission’s head office.
It was also gathered that a team of top class detectives have been put together to grill the former Governor.
The source said, “But of course you should know that the news making the rounds that he has been released is not true. That is fake news.
“As we are talking, the former Governor has been moved from Lagos to the head office. He is already in Abuja ready to face the interrogation which will commence soon.”
The Head of Media of the EFCC, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, could not be reached for comments as the calls placed to mobile telephone indicated that it was in an area outside of network coverage.
