Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed is a Nigerian economist and the founder of Baze University, a private tertiary institution located at Jabi in Abuja. He founded the school in 2011.
He was born into the Baba-Ahmed family in Zaria. A family of 33 children with 22 still alive as at 2018.
Yusuf Datti Ahmed’s father, Baba-Ahmed is originally from Mauritania.
According to Mahadiyya; “In Mauritania, his (their father’s country of origin, seeking for Islamic knowledge was compulsory on every citizen.”

Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed’s date of birth is not certain (presently) but reportedly a year between 1969 and 1976.
In a short bio of him published on Baze University website, the pro-chancellor of the institution is 46 years old (but the year of the publication is not stated; therefore cannot be used to determine his year of birth except as an estimate).
Baba-Ahmed has four degrees; a BSc and MSc in Economics from University of Maiduguri, an MBA from the University of Wales, Cardiff.
In 2006, he successfully completed his PhD studies, earning the title of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Westminster
Baba-Ahmed served as a member of the House of Representatives representing Zaria federal constituency from 2003 to 2007 on the platform of the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP).
He also represented the Kaduna North Senatorial District in the Senate between 2011 and 2012 on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).
Although the typical term for a senator is four years, Yusuf’s term was discontinued when the electoral tribunal overturned his victory.
He was unveiled as the vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) on July 8, 2022.
Non-political career/Source of Wealth
After his service year at University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Ogun state, he worked as Projects Co-ordinator, Baze Research and Data Services Ltd. and as Officer II in the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company, Lagos.
He worked as a Banking Officer, First Bank of Nigeria Plc from July 1997 to Dec 1998 and then came back to become the Managing Director of Baze Research and Data Services Ltd in July 1999 – January 2003, before venturing into politics.
In 2015, Senator Yusuf Baba-Ahmed was appointed as Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Hope Alive Foundation – which campaigns for post-service economic survival of corps members who suffered permanent disability during service.
