Biography Nigeria understands that Engr. David Nweze Umahi is the son of Elder Chief Joseph Umahi Nweze of Umunaga village, Uburu autonomous community in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

Dave Umahi attended Umunaga Primary School, Uburu between 1971 and 1977 and obtained his First Leaving School Certificate with Distinction. He attended Ishiagu High School between 1978 and 1979, and then moved to prestigious Government Secondary School Afikpo, where he completed his Secondary Education. After his secondary school, Dave got admission into Enugu State University of Science and Technology where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from 1982 to 1987.
After his University education, Engr. Dave Umahi, underwent the compulsory one year National Youth Service (NYSC) scheme between 1988 and 1989, which he did at SAIPEM SPA in Benin City, Edo State.

Dave Umahi Career
After his National Youth Youth Service program, Engr. Dave Umahi started a career with SCC Nig. Ltd, an Israeli Water Engineering Company. There, he became a Project Engineer. He later joined NORMAN ENGINEERING AND CONSTUCTION NIG. LIMITED a company he co-founded with the then Managing Director of NAFCON, Dr. Ombo Isokarari. He also worked with and/or founded other reputable companies such as: (a). Brass Engineering & Construction Nig Ltd. (b). Fucus Investment Nig. Ltd. (c). Osborn La Palm Royal Resort Ltd.
Dave Umahi Politicical Career
Dave joined politics and became the Acting chairman of Ebonyi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) between 2007 and 2009. He was later elected the substantive State chairman of PDP in the year 2009, a position he held till 2011. Between the years 2010 and 2011, he served as the chairman, Governing Board of the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba.
In the year 2011, Dave teamed-up with Chief Martin Martin Elechi, as running mate, and they contested for the position of the governor of Ebonyi State. Dave Umahi became the Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State following their success in the gubernatorial election of Ebonyi State and was sworn in on 29th May 2011 for a term of four years ending in 2015. On April 11, 2015, Engr. Dave Umahi contested for and won election as the governor of Ebonyi State.

Chief Dave Umahi is married to Rachel Umahi and they have seven children.
He is is a devote Christian and member of the Christ Embassy Church where he holds many important positions.
Governor Umahi is very philanthropic, with numerous chieftaincy titles, including Ekubara Oha of Ohaozara.
As a cheerful giver, he has given meaning and value to the lives of many people of different ethnic nationalities.
Using the “ENGR. DAVE UMAHI EDUCATION FOUNDATION”, Chief Umahi has given full scholarships to over 750 undergraduates from the inception of their tertiary education to final year, from 2009 to date. He also runs a Charity through which he distributes essential materials and cash to widows, orphans and the less–privileged periodically.
Through his Youth Empowerment Scheme, he has sponsored the training of young people in entrepreneurial skills, mobilized many financially and today, many of them are proud owners of thriving businesses.
Chief Umahi is married to her Excellency, Chief (Mrs.) Rachel Umahi and they have seven children.

Governor Umahi declares intention to contest for President in 2023, informs Buhari
The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, has formally declared his intention to run for the Office of the President of the country, saying that he has informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his presidential ambition in 2023 under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
This notification from Umahi is coming barely a day after the former Governor of Lagos State and the National Leader of APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, also informed the President of his intention to contest in the 2023 presidential election.
This was made known by Umahi, while speaking to State House Correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, saying that his presidency will replicate his progressive efforts in Ebonyi at the national level.
When asked what his chances would be against the background that other big political figures had indicated their intentions to run for the same office, including Bola Tinubu, Governor Umahi said God would be the decider of the outcome of the race, pointing out that he stands a chance if the ruling party, APC, throws the ticket open.

Recall that 24 hours ago, Bola Tinubu, while answering questions from journalists after a meeting with President Buhari at the Presidential Villa, revealed that he has informed the president of his intention to contest in the 2023 presidential election.
He said the President is a democrat and therefore, has not asked him to stop the pursuit of his ambition which for him is life-long, insisting that he has the confidence, vision, and capacity to build on the foundation laid by President Buhari to turn around the fortunes of the country.
Governor Umahi dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling APC in November 2020.
