He began his early career as a football player and He started developing interest in boxing a teens.

Controversy
In 2007, Joshua was detained at Reading jail for fighting, and in March 2011 he was taken into custody for cannabis possession. He received a 12-month community order and 100 hours of unpaid work instead of a jail term.
Former light-welterweight boxing world champion Amir Khan charged Joshua with having an affair with his ex-wife Farval Makhdoom in 2017. Joshua refuted the claim and stated that he had never even spoken to Farval.
In 2017, Joshua referred to heavyweight boxer Eddie Chambers as a “disgrace to the superior black race.” Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, claimed the message was received from a phoney account, but Chambers was able to show that it had actually been sent from Joshua’s verified account, disproving Hearn’s fraudulent claim.
Later, Joshua appeared to support Robert Mugabe, the former president of Zimbabwe, on Snapchat. His promoter however claimed his account was hacked
In 2020, Joshua was accused of racism after he made the following remarks during a Black Lives Matter demonstration in Watford: “Show them where it hurts, abstain from spending your money in their stores and economies, and invest in black-owned enterprises.”
Some saw this as a call to stop doing business with white people. He replied that he had just read the speech aloud on behalf of a friend and that it was not his own. In addition, he added, “Go fuck yourself if you believe I’m a racist”.
